The Chelsea Flower Show
Creating a vision at the Chelsea Flower Show
Designing a garden for Chelsea is all about amazing plants at the peak of their bloom. It does help to have a beautiful backdrop to set them off, at their best.
We have built and installed, a variety of complete thatched buildings for different designers.
The challenging construction timescale on site is approximately one week. With this in mind, we prefabricated the complete building in our workshop for the designer to visit, prior to the show. To ensure a rapid construction on site, we designed the whole kit to assemble without the need of any large lifting equipment. Once it has met with approval, it was broken down and transported to Chelsea. It usually takes less than a day to assemble the basic structure, allowing us to thatch, paint and dress the building. Like a carefully choreographed dance, the garden, with its precious plants, takes shape around us as we labour.
We take full advantage of our film industry contacts for specialist services, and props, to really make the project pop!

Thatched Film and TV Sets
Thatched architecture provides a portal into history and tradition for the viewer. Shaggy, handmade thatch tells of Iron age round houses, hovels or Viking long houses. Shapely smooth curves, tightly clipped gables, and smart ridges are merchant’s houses or an imperial temple. Thatch offers action prompts too - As the battle rages, thatch burns really, really well ! We have helped many film and TV production weave stories with thatch.

One in the shadow of Clifford's Tower, in York, and another in the gardens of Blenheim Palace. Thatch was vital to lend an air of medieval authenticity to their concessions village.
