About
Brandon Thatchers
Our first brush with the world of film and televisions was a chance
involvement in the production of ‘Brave Heart’ in Fort
William, Scotland. By complete coincidence we were thatching ancient
round houses at a local museum. The researcher, who stood at the
foot of our ladder with a notepad and camera, eventually asked if
we might be interested in meeting the designer. This lead to us
building much of the set, and have been very interested in set construction
ever since with nearly 20 Feature Films to our credit.
Brandon Thatcher’s is a second generation family business
dating back nearly 40 years. We have thatched a wide range of buildings
from cottages to black houses in a variety of different and unusual
materials across the UK and Europe.
The business is run by Dicken
Warner who has worked in a variety of rolls from Greensman to
Construction Manager, Prop Man & Set Dresser on Features, TV
and Commercials as well as specialist projects such as the Wetlands
Centre at Barn Elms, Chelsea Flower Show and the Singapore Garden
Festival.
Since the millennium we have been entirely focused on serving the
film and television industry, as this is certainly where my main
interests lie. There have been a few distractions along the way,
like an RHS gold for our part in the winning garden of the 2005
Chelsea flower show~ A soldiers dream of blighty, Designed by Julian
Dowle which won Best in Show, and the BBC’s Peoples
Choice. We constructed the much loved thatched pub, which has since
been recreated in Kent for ‘Shepherd Neame Master Brewers’.
We also reconstructed the pub, on the 8th floor of a Singapore skyscraper,
for the ‘Singapore Garden festival’. It again won ‘The
Peoples Choice’ award for the most popular garden, as voted
by the visitors.
We have expanded our sphere of involvement so that we can now build
and dress the sets we once simply thatched. We also supply a wide
variety of materials for construction and dressing.
With this web site we hope to make life as easy as possible for
anyone researching a thatched or rustic set, and of course we would
love to be involved in the building or dressing process.
We are always keen to take on fresh challenges. We have recently
been involved in design and built of: - holiday homes, Garden furniture,
even a burned out French Château (which won ‘Best in
Show’ at the ‘Victory Show’, World War II battle
recreation society) all with a rustic, thatched or gracefully aged
theme. If you have an idea, or project which you are looking for
constructive support with, please give us a call. |
